A Cake of My Own

After coming back from Illinois, I've jumped back into planning. There are two families in our church who are adopting from Ethiopia. It has been so awesome to get to see this process and the way they (and the rest of us) are anticipating bringing their babies home. Jack and Lyndsay are still waiting for their travel dates and Mark and Amber are leaving next week. So, we are throwing a shower!

I'm especially excited after working on these.

This was my first try and they turned out so much better than I thought they would. Now for something we can actually eat...

Re-

Josh and I have been "recycling" for the last six months. Which basically equals a half-hearted attempt to save plastic, cardboard, and aluminum and store them all in the closet. It's a start.

To recycle in our county, the drop off point is the back of a huge semi. It's kind of secluded in a right off the main road, but still creepy at night kind of way. But yesterday (during daylight hours) I finally made the drop off. It was quick and easy. It also left me with a few doubts that all of that actually gets recycled. Not everything that was left was in line with the regulations, but hopefully they don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Not exactly inspiring, but I still hope to do better. Plus, I know our downstairs neighbors love it when I crush cans. :)

Cake mania

Okay, I thought these cakes deserved a post of their own. Megan definitely deserves a shout out for baking these herself with no professional experience. They look so good! She and Becka worked on them for hours - literally - many hours.

The groom's cake was (obviously) based on Mario and it was yummy banana cake underneath. I'm very sad not to have gotten a chance to try it.

The other cake was beautiful as well. And this is a picture of Lindsey with no cake on her face. You can tell she is very satisfied about that.

Wuv, tru wuv

This week was so packed. Josh and I headed toward St. Louis on Wednesday to join in the wedding fun. It was a lot of work, and a lot of fun. And now the bride and groom get a restful vacation, while we have to go back to work. Not saying they don't deserve it - just wouldn't mind some more time off myself. :)

Here are the new Mr. & Mrs. Greenfield.

Blushing Bride

A little preview of my weekend. More to come!
