Believe it or not, I've done this before

After our great, if a little busy, weekend it was time to come back home. Getting home for us now is not that different from when I was in school. I should know the way pretty well. South and west. Check.

Once we got out of town, I missed a turn off. Not a big deal. It was a short cut, but we got there fine. Once in Cinci, I should have taken the exit to 71 (you know the one that say KENTUCKY). But I passed it.

At that point, the next exit we came to happened to be for Hebron. Now you can't go through Hebron without stopping at the mega Gap Outlet store. (at least I can't) We got some cool deals. Josh needed red polos for Target and they were 4/$10. I also got three tops for myself for 99 cents each. Woohoo

So we got back on the loop around Cinci. South and west, right? Except, since I had already passed the exit we needed I actually should have gone east. So after some traffic because of construction, we took the next exit we could find to turn around.

Oh wait! Remember that construction? The ramp back on to the loop was closed. Time for a detour. Let me just say I'm not sure how we were in Cinci, but ended up in the middle of nowhere. But eventually we made it. It pretty much took us back to Hebron, where we got on going east and caught the exit heading south. Back on track.

The rest of the trip was without incident. We did have one other detour, but it was voluntary. You can't be that close to Cheesecake Factory without getting some dinner. Okay, well you can, but we didn't.

Top Ten

I thought about being a "serious" blogger and having a Top Ten Thursday, but then I'm not sure if alliteration is cool or not. And it would require me remembering what day it is. Hmmm ... so instead ...

Top Ten Reasons Why Top Ten Lists Are Cool

1. They are similar to bullet points. (fyi - because there is a bullitt county in ky, it took me a really long time to figure out the correct spelling for that)
2. You can do them in reverse order
3. They are usually a simple phrase or sentence ...
4. ... which makes them easy to write
5. David Letterman uses them all the time - wait, just kidding, that counts for negative coolness
6. 10 is a nice even number
7. They make for easy reading
8. Short people rock
9. You can do them in reverse order!
10. You know when they're going to end
11. Or maybe not

Enjoyable weekend?

I'm not sure yet if I'm going to enjoy this weekend. Last night I worked at Cracker Barrell. This morning I am as well (until 2:00). Then I have to ...
  • make a grocery store run
  • take a meal to the Dyers - this part I do not mind because then we get to deliver it and see their new baby girl Amazra - who will be adorable if she is anything like her older sister
  • finish getting the nursery schedule ready so I can deliver it Sunday
  • make lunch for the extended fam (aka the in-laws, also should be fun - yay father's day!)
  • somehow find time to wash my uniform so I can work again Sunday until close
  • then the week begins again (sigh)
Basically, I just need more weekend! :)

I feel old

Every now and then I find myself feeling stiff and sore, not because of any kind of physical exercise or anything good like that. Sometimes it's from sleeping wrong or sitting in the same position. I find myself trying to (painfully) stretch out the kinks and say to Josh "I feel so old". (He usually replies that I am, but only because he likes to rub in the fact that he is 26 days younger.)

This is sad to me. It assumes that elderly people are frequently stiff or in pain. Is this really the case? How awful. I would ask your opinion, but if you are reading this blog I will classify you as young. I don't want to get into trouble. Anyway, I hope I'm lying. I hope that I don't really feel old because that's not what old feels like. God willing, I'll just wait and find out.

Voice of Thunder

" I think we might have stored the holiness of God in short-term memory. We shoot the dart against the wall every once in a while, but it always just falls away. We have such lovely intentions at times and turn the vehicle down that road, and then we forget we were heading to the feet of the king. We've become uncomfortably numb to the truth that our destination is the feet of the Holy Other-Than Transcendent Creator King of All Heaven and Earth. We are numb and uncomfortably content. We've built churches and sermons to make Him tame and accessible, to make Him seem approachable as one who fits neatly into our lives, and we forget that His is the voice of thunder and lightning. Our comfort is unsettling. Is is an uncomfortable comfort. ...

Let praise come face to the ground, trembling with life and awareness that we are found by a holy God."

Tidbits from my week

  1. I threw my keys away. No, it was not on purpose. I almost panicked when I couldn't find them the next morning. Sure enough, when I retraced my steps they were in the trash can.
  2. I decided that since I don't like wearing shorts, summer skirts rock when it's hot outside. And it sure was hot outside this week. ... so I bought a new skirt. ... for $2.50!
  3. The distance between your wrist and your elbow is the same length as your foot.
  4. Nintendo DS is addictive, until you beat the game. (insert evil laughter)
  5. This is the first day we have had in a long time without plans. It's kind of boring. But sometimes boring is kind of nice.

Party Pics

Some of my favorites from the weekend. I was actually at the party, but as I was snapping pictures I appeared in about zero. :)

Happy Gradubirthday!

This is my sisser. This week she celebrated graduating from high school and turning 18! Isn't she cute? But acutally I like this picture better because she's laughing.

I could write a lot about Lindsey, but I don't want her to be mad at me. So in honor of her birthday I'll share some of the memories that stand out (in no particular order).

  • Lindsey has no concept of personal space and enjoys propping her feet up on your lap.
  • She is my fashion guru.
  • She sounds like Darth Vader when she's asleep.
  • Lindsey has a magic baby touch that makes even grandmas jealous (none that we know of course)
  • I bit her ... twice ... and she deserved it.
  • She can talk her way out of (almost) anything.
  • She loves her nephews ... and since I do too, here's a picture.
  • Lindsey makes us laugh a lot. She's not really a blonde, but sometimes she can fool you.
  • She has matured and grown in Christ SO much in the last few years and I am proud of her.
  • That boy better not steal her 'cause she has to move to KY when I have kids. :)

Love you Sisser!

Ketchup, Catch UP!

One of the days I'm going to bombard my blog with new pictures. I have taken hundreds in the last few weekends. Josh and I went to Ohio this past weekend to (finally) see my family. It was great. We came back on Tuesday and I have been playing catch up ever since. :) It's taken a while to get my work back in order and I haven't really made it to the housework yet. I can't even do any laundry until I buy some more detergent. Did I mention it was totally worth it?

There is something nice about coming home though. It has something to do with sleeping in my own bed I think.

Having the random trains of thought that I do, thinking about catching up on things reminded me of this book. Has anyone read this book? I have memories of being young, like just learned to read young, and visiting my grandparents in Arkansas. I don't think they even have it any more, but I would love to read it again. All I remember is that it is about a little monkey who is slow. Mostly it just brings back good memories of staying with my grandparents. Sort of like the smell of coffee. It's funny how something will take you back...
