With my "hardearned" birthday money I got some new music for the road. The artist that has me singing along right now is Brooke Fraser. If you have not heard her yet, check it out 'cause she rocks. (Well, mostly it's acoustic but you know what I mean.)
I was so excited to find this new artist and share her awesomeness, which would then rub off slightly on me for telling you all about her. But today, Emily ruined that by blogging about none other than Brooke Fraser. Yes, it's a cool song. Yes, it's about C.S. Lewis. Yes, you should still check out Brooke Fraser. But now I no longer get the awesomeness. How do you always find cool new artists? (And why don't you mention them sooner?) Oh, well.
And yeah. My song of the moment is Shadowfeet. It's just the right length for my drive to good ol' CB.
Walking,stumbling on these shadowfeet
toward home,a land that i've never seen
I am changing: less and less asleep
made of different stuff than when i began
and i have sensed it all along
fast approaching is the day
[CHORUS]
when the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standing
when the sky rolls up and mountains fall on their knees
when time and space are through
I'll be found in you
Theres distraction buzzing in my head
saying in the shadows it's easier to stay
but I've heard rumours of true reality
whispers of a well-lit way
[CHORUS]
You make all things new
[CHORUS]
[CHORUS 2]
When the world has fallen out from under me
I'll be found in you, still standing
Every fear and accusation under my feet
when time and space are through
I'll be found in you

Now wait just a minute
Working at Cracker Barrel, I end up talking to a lot of different people. My favorite is meeting people who are traveling and finding out where they're from and where they're headed. Last night I met a family from California.
But every now and then I have conversations and I'm not sure quite how to react. Like the man who told me a story about bringing home a Nat King Cole cd for his wife and how she liked it because he's black. How do you respond to that?
Well, last night was interesting. I walked up to talk to a woman who was trying on an embroidered denim jacket. The woman looked mid-forties and was tall and slim. She told me that she was trying it on to give as a gift to her mother, but that her mother was shaped differently than her. I think her exact words were tiny in the shoulders and thicker in the middle. She was debating between a medium and a large and asked my opinion. Then the kicker ...
well, what size do you wear?
wow, I'm shaped like your mom? thank you. i was trying for the pear shape
would you mind trying it on for me?
as long as the guest is happy. :)

A Wild Experiment
I finally downloaded pics to show the wild and wonderful experiment that was cooking wild turkey for our small group. Here's how it went down ...
Step 1: Prepare all ingredients
lots of chopping ..... was that a feather?!? ....
roadtrip
(That glass bowl is totally not mine, but it looks like something they would use on those cooking shows.)
Step 2: Fry onions and green pepper in butter.
Step 3: A little salt, a little pepper, a little garlic powder ... and it's starting to smell good in here.
Step 4: Mix peppers and onions back in with meat. Simmer down, simmer down now. We're almost there.
Step 5: Ta-da! (You can even see the steam rising.)
I would call that success!

Hmmmm
So I have my blog saved as a favorite on my computer and I find myself clicking to go read it. Like there's going to miraculously appear a new blog entry. Oh wait, I have to do that.
Here's a quote to chew on:

Song of the moment
I was listening to this song today and it made me laugh (not for the first time) because it reminds me of when Josh and I first started "talking". Not that it was quite love at first sight. :) Basically, the obliviousness (did I just make that word up?) rings true. It could almost be "our" song, except I'm not sure Josh has ever even heard it. lol
"Everybody But You" by Dave Barnes
Honest baby
Can't you see it when it's just me and you?
My face gets blushed
My sentences rush
I don't know what to do
I'm trying lady
Just to act like nothing's going on
It's plain to see that you get to me
And I guess you should
Rumors going around
Baby I guess it's true
Everybody knows it here but you
I love ya girl, but you still ain't got a clue
I've waited baby
For these feelings just to fade away
As the days get longer
They just get stronger
I don't know what to say
Forgive me baby
See I never really meant to confuse
My chance is gone
All I've done is wrong
I've got nothing left to lose
Rumors going around
Baby I guess it's true
Everybody knows it here but you
(Everybody knows but you)
I love ya girl, but you still ain't got a clue
(Everybody knows but you)
(x2)
I must apologize
My reason's off and other lies
I'm helpless baby when it comes to you
Everybody knows it here but you
(Everybody knows but you)
I love ya girl, but you still ain't got a clue
(Everybody knows but you)
Still ain't got a clue
Got a clue.

I guess it's cool
Somedays I love my job, other days not so much. Today for instance, was slightly stressful. I pretty much worked 10+ hours. I was worried that I wouldn't finish in time because I found quite a few people who are really good at stealing (or not since they kept getting arrested). For those of you who aren't tracking, I'm referring to the court research, not Cracker Barrel. :)
I may be tempted to get cranky about certain things, but the truth is how many jobs would I get to:
I may be tempted to get cranky about certain things, but the truth is how many jobs would I get to:
- Crank up the music and sing along at the top of my lungs
- Re-arrange my schedule to hang out with friends (or my sisser)
- Get to dress however I choose, which recently has meant t-shirt and flip flops
- Spend part of my work time at home on the computer - and still getting to listen to a message online or book on tape

Half Price or Bust
So, the weekend wasn't all boring. Well, depending on who you ask. We got to meet up with our newly-married friends Dusty & Emily. We spent the afternoon in the big city.
First, browsing the mall. Normally, my favorite mall. They have a Brendan Diamonds so I can get my ring cleaned and checked, which I have to do every six months to stay current on the warranty. I guess I should say did. Now the location is closed! I was bummed. Brendan Diamonds needs to pick it up. The location at our mall closed as well right before Josh picked up the ring. Icing and Charlotte Russe also let me down, because although they were having good sales, I did not find the deal for me.
Next we had an early dinner at Macaroni Grill. I have never eaten there before, but it was quite tasty. I had the chicken stuffed ravioli. The sauce was delicious, but so rich! I couldn't finish my plate.
Then for the climax of our evening we went to Half Price Books. Ever heard the expression like a kid in a candy store? That described Emily. Okay, and me too. (Although, I am more into libraries these days.) Josh and I added Percy Jackson book 3, and Harry Potter books 5 & 6 to our book collection. All in hardback and for a grand total of $8.00.
I love hanging out with friends, books, and pasta. :) (Probably in that order.)

Ashamed, but still addicted
The 4th was a little bland for me. Josh worked until one and I had to go in at five. So, my holiday was spent with a Bachelorette marathon (courtesy of abc.com). It's sad but true. I have such a love/hate relationship with this show. I think it's such a farce in a lot of ways. But at the same time I'm fascinated. I think by the seeming sincerity and pure desperation that would make you want to be in that situation.
Well, Deanna is a Campbellsville native, so she has that going for her. But we won't find out how it all ends until tomorrow. Wait, that's not true. We won't find out who she chooses until tomorrow. We might find out in 5-10 years how it all ends.
p.s. - If I weren't such a skeptic I'd be rooting for Jason, but I don't want his cute little boy to get hurt.

Just a few reasons
