Famine

Josh and I participated last weekend in 30 Hour Famine. For those of you who haven't heard this is a really great youth event written by World Vision. The kids collect money/sponsors before the event and agree to fast for 30 hours. (Mine was more like a 24 hour famine because I can't do math.) During the weekend there are activities to teach about the AIDS crisis and poverty in developing countries as well as Bible studies to dig into what Jesus had to say about these things. We had 10 youth involved and they raised a total of $773.03! This will first be matched by a government grant then go to World Vision. We also held a food drive over the weekend and filled a car with canned goods that will go to organizations that help those in the community.

The paper clip project: we strung together 1200 paperclips. This represents the number of children 5 & under who die from hunger related diseases in one hour.
